New 4 Bladed Maxprop - August 2007

A new four blade Max-Prop propeller, a world first, has been supplied and fitted in the UK by Darglow Engineering; the propeller was fitted to an Oyster 82 built by Southampton Yacht Services.

This new four blade feathering propeller is manufactured in tough, corrosion resistant nickel aluminium bronze using the latest state of the art technology in feathering propeller design, this four blade version will give better grip in the water which is especially important when motoring through heavy weather or against a strong tide, a key factor is that the propeller feathers when sailing to create almost zero resistance giving super sailing performance.  Max-Prop are renowned for strong performance in headway and sternway, which is particularly useful for large yachts when docking or moving in and out of marinas.

Max-Prop 4 Blade

The new 34 inch four blade Max-Prop was manufactured by Max-Prop in Italy using Darglow's in-house expertise. The blades have been custom designed to create exactly the right pitch for the Oyster 82, however, Darglow's Managing Director Bob Doyle explains that this new design of four blade Max-Prop feathering propellers have the advantage that the blade pitch can be adjusted in situ, even while the boat is in the water.  He said: “The design is such that the blades can be re-pitched in under 5 minutes without having to remove the propeller.  This is useful for large yachts which might vary their journeys, and require more performance from the propeller while on a long delivery passage for example"
