Malo Yachts

Malo 43 yacht

Malo Yachts has a long, rich history in the sailboat industry dating back to 1939 when the company was first founded in Kungsviken (the Bay of Kings) on the historic boat building island of Orust.

The company was started by Johannes Olsson, who set out building wooden yachts. By the start of the ‘60s Johannes’ sons, Bo and Orvar Olsson took over the business and went on to build their first GRP yacht in 1969.

Third generation Olsson’s, Lars and Bengt Olsson assumed responsibility for Malo Yachts in 1984 and ran the company until 2008 when Bob Erixon bought the boat yard.

Handcrafted Sailing Boats for the Discerning Sailor

Malo Yachts experienced significant growth and began gaining a reputation for producing high-quality cruising yachts. Over the years Malo have produced a range of yachts from 34 feet to 47 feet in length and are considered to be built of a higher standard than most.

The company’s commitment to craftsmanship, attention to detail, and sailing performance attracted a loyal customer base. Their workforce consists of a small team of dedicated, highly professional boat builders, many of whom have over thirty years’ experience within the industry.

Each yacht is built to order, with a focus on using the best equipment and fittings with design and engineering that exceeds the current classification requirements. The company has built a reputation for excellence that is well-deserved.

Malö Yachts is now part of Sweden Yachts Group, which also encompasses Sweden Yachts, CR Yachts and Regina of Vindö. The Group is dedicated to maintaining Swedish boat building traditions, by producing high quality, handcrafted sailing boats for the discerning sailor.

Malo Yachts current range

Malo Yachts currently produces a range of six models, from 37 to 47 feet in length. These models are:

Each model remains true to its heritage and is designed for cruising and bluewater sailing, and they are all built to the same high standards of quality and craftsmanship that Malo Yachts is known for.

Malo 37

The Malo 37 is a classic cruising yacht that is positioned as a “spirited yet stable long-distance yacht” with a comfortable interior and two double berths. It offers plenty of space for a boat of its size and is well-suited for single-handed sailing or short-handed cruising.

Malo 40

The Malo 40 yacht is a modern long-distance yacht that includes everything you would expect from Malo when it comes to comfort, performance, safety, and quality of build. The new deck layout increases the internal volume and provides two double berths along with a comfortable dining area, galley, navigation table and shower room.

For those customers that want something a little different, Malo offer an alternative layout with an additional shower in the main berth and double arm chairs in the dining area.

Malo 43

The Malo 43 is an elegant boat that is designed for long-distance cruising and bluewater sailing. Despite its size it is easy to handle even for a small crew. As standard, it features a spacious and well-appointed interior with two double berths, a large saloon, and a fully-equipped galley. The Malo 43’s size offers even more potential to customise the interior, resulting in a very personal and individual boat. A boat for the sheer pleasure of sailing.

Malo 47

The Malo 47 is designed for easy handling and is well-suited for cruising in a variety of conditions, including high latitudes and challenging weather conditions. This is the yacht that will take you around the world in complete comfort and safety. Every aspect of this boat is solid and robust and every detail has been considered.

The standard layout of the Malo 47 provides three double berths along with a comfortable dining area, generous galley, navigation table and two shower rooms.

In 2016 Malo won the “Best Long-Distance Cruiser award from the French magazine “Voiles et Voiliers” for its Malo 47 Classic model. The yacht was praised for its ability to sail long distances in comfort and safety, as well as its high-quality construction and attention to detail.

Malo 49

This is the first in the new generation of Malo yachts. The Malo 49 is faster, more stable and provides more room internally. Built in line with the marque of true craftsmanship, the Malo 49 is a classic bluewater cruiser.

Below deck, the broader hull offers plenty of living space and is fitted out for both comfort and functionality. Several different layouts are available, but the standard layout provides three double berths along with comfortable dining area, l-shaped galley, navigation table, two shower rooms, and even an optional dinghy garage with integrated gangway in the stern.
