FeatherStream A-Hub 3B

Moody 31 MK2

Moody 31’s were originally fitted with a Volvo Penta 2003 engine and therefore had a left handed propeller.

When we bought Selene she was fitted with a two blade folding circa 1980’s Darglow propeller which served us well until we had to re-engine with a Beta 30 which required a right handed propeller.

We used to do a fair bit of club racing but with increasing age we were moving more towards cruising than racing so I took the decision to fit a two blade fixed propeller but as soon as we were back in the water I started to regret this decision. Sailing off the wind we were now being overtaken by yachts that previously we would have sailed away from ( estimate min reduction in speed as 0.5kt ), on the wind our pointing ability suffered and when sailing at 6kts the propeller would sing, fixed prop would have to go .

I initially thought that I would fit a Darglow folding prop but after some discussion I was persuaded to fit a three blade FeatherStream.

The FeatherStream is a nice piece of engineering, it was delivered on time, I found it straightforward and easy to fit, we have regained all that we lost with the fixed two blade and it doesn’t sing !

It drives Selene well in both directions and I would not hesitate to recommend the propeller and Darglow’s advice and service.
